What fun! The girls and I were able to create out first terrariums this weekend. I have to say though, we were lucky to compile all of the ingredients. I had a really hard time finding plants that would be suitable, and that were small enough to fit in. My favourite garden shop, which normally has everything properly labeled - did not. None of the 'indoor tropical plants' were labeled at all. I could not find live moss at all. A bit later in the season, I'm sure I'll have no problem finding it out on walks for free. I found sphagnum moss at Big Al's Aquarium, but at $35 for a smallish package, we decided to do without.
All of the rocks were collected from the beach, and while I thought we had plenty - the big terrarium which is a gift for my Maya's friend Rachel used up the majority of them. Maya has now further decorated the outside with ribbons and bows. She can't wait to give it to her.
I used some of the leftover bits to make the smaller one. I'd like to make a couple more, once I have a chance to obtain/or grow more suitable plants and decorations to make them a bit more artistic - but I think they look great considering what we had to work with. Sorry for the terrible pics - my main camera needed charging, and of course we had no sun yesterday.
